Lesson 9: Calibration & Mix Rates

Objective:

By the end of this training, technicians will understand the importance of proper calibration and mix rates for pest control treatments. They will be able to correctly mix approved products, follow safety procedures, and understand the frequency and restrictions for product applications.

Overview:

Calibration and proper mix rates are essential for the effective and safe application of pest control products. Following the correct mix rates ensures that treatments are effective without overusing chemicals, which could harm the environment or result in non-compliance with regulatory standards. This lesson covers the calibration process, approved product mix rates, and answers to frequently asked questions regarding application limits and procedures.

Calibration & Mix Rates:

1. Understanding Calibration:

Calibration is the process of adjusting your equipment to ensure the correct amount of product is applied evenly and consistently. Proper calibration helps you:

• Apply the correct amount of pesticide.

• Avoid waste of chemicals.

• Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

2. Approved Products and Mix Rates:

Different products require different mix rates to ensure effective pest control. Below are the approved products and their recommended mix rates for General Household Pest (GHP) and Lawn & Ornamental (LO) applications:

Key Standards & Expectations:

1. Calibration: Ensure your equipment is calibrated correctly for even and consistent application. Miscalibrated equipment can lead to over- or under-application of products, both of which can be problematic.

2. Correct Mix Rates: Always follow the approved mix rates for each product. Proper dilution ensures effective pest control while minimizing environmental impact.

3. Safety Compliance: Ensure that you follow all safety protocols, such as wearing protective gear and handling products according to their labels.

4. Understanding Product Applications: Be familiar with when and where each product can be used, including limits on application frequency and the approved areas (indoors vs. outdoors).
